Earlier this year I had the fantasy of replacing our not so attractive round lawn in our backyard with a labyrinth. Hot California Summers had left the grass patchy and not so pretty... I wanted not just any labyrinth, but one designed by my dear friend LEA! Lea has her Doctorate in Labyrinths, and recently publised a delightful little book called "Ladybug Labyrinth". The image above, from this book, is called 'Ladybug Labyrinth for 2', and was the sole inspiration for our new labyrinth! No easy task this, first Husband and a hired 'strong muscled teenager' dug out all the 1/2 dead grass. Next the grass had to be hauled away. Then I spent a wonderful day looking for rocks with Lea and my daughter which you can read about HERE! Finally, yesterday the 3 of us, Husband, Daughter and I, layed down weed-cloth, poured sand (8 bags of 60 pounds each) and layed bricks (311 total!) in our pattern. It was a hot, heavy and sweaty day, but we were determined to get it done! We finished by 5:00, and had Lea come over to check it out! She took the last photo of Husband and I celebrating! Now to have the gravel delivered and fill in the paths - we are almost there! THANK YOU LEA!!!
