Just for fun I thought I would post an old Collage assignment from when I was studying textiles at UC Davis. I just loved doing this project and hope you might find inspiration from it. This was for a fashion drawing class, but could be used for lots of other creative brainstorming. First, we had to find a fashion 'Silhouette' from a magazine and an all-over color image that appealed to us. Here you see the cut-out 'Silhouette' with the image (red exotic flowers) underneath. Next image is the flowers themselves... Isn't it interesting how different they look when put under the 'Silhouette'???
Second, we had to paint exactly what we saw in gouche. Not easy to do! Here is how mine turned out...
Finally, we were to design an outfit using this image as our inspiration. I loved this part, and was real happy with my results. I imagined a gown inspired by Fortuny, with lots and lots of tiny pleats, hand colored silks reminiscent of flowers, a green sash with a faux-branch attached, and a hand-hammered silver clasp at the shoulders. A black velvet turtleneck gown acts as slip and frame for the ensemble. I only wish we also had time to create our design, as I would have loved to make this piece...
