There is something about decedent decay, that really appeals to me. A secret part of me has always enjoyed Victorian Macabre. A romantic macabre, if there is such a thing. Visions of a long ago feast, left behind, now encrusted with webs. Bats and owls in the attic, mice under the table. Huge bouquets of flowers, long ago dried-up and now funereally in appearence. Old time-stained lace dresses, peeling paint, ancestoral likenesses looking nothing like their originals. Clocks whose hands have not moved for centuries...
Yesterday Juju posted an amazing teaching venue where she will be in October called Battery. While browsing the sight I found photos by the stylist Victoria Metcalf. She has a Websight in progress that will surely prove wonderful. Her work has true romantic Victorian Macabre as its backbone. As if we have just opened the doors to centuries old rooms, she helps us step back in time, and relive our long lost macabre dreams.
