Fairy Chatelaine's At The Castle

IMG_3718

Four Lovely Women joined me on Tuesday to create 'Fairy Chatelaine's'!  Little treasures were encased in clay, glittered, shaped and formed into enchanting charms any fairy would be proud to wear!  The first one below, was created by one of the students for "a friend who just lost her Mother", filled with personal symbols and meaning...  Truly Wonderful Day!!!

Moody Seasons...

009-ohlsson

Something about these photos by Billy & Hells strike a chord with me today. They seem historic, yet not. Faces boldly looking out, but also dreamy and nostalgic.  Perfect for a change of season!

Wearable Papel Picado!

3648508194_8797eeca30_b

I absolutely adore it when art techniques cross and create something totally new and unexpected!  Just look at these wonderful dresses by Latin designer Ronaldo Fraga! His models look like a cross between Minnie Mouse and Papel Picado with a little Frida Ethnicity thrown in just for fun!  I would love to do something like this in felt - an apron perhaps?  or a jumper?

What To Wear To The Insect Ball!

Mary Katrantzou Fall 2009 1

Jill of Trend de la Creme with her ever sure eye for what is IN and COOL, recently found these fashions by Mary Katrantzou (which were inspired by vintage perfume bottles).   Jill's 'trend finding' eyes found these dresses reminding her instead of the Southeastern United States - Lubber Grasshopper, best known for its unique coloration and markings!  Now we ask - which came first?  The perfume bottles or the Grasshoppers?

PAPER SHOES, SHOES, SHOES!

IMG_2891

Just look at these crepe paper confections above.  Don't they just sing and dance and make your mouth water?  Yesterday Nancy and I taught 'Paper Shoes' at the Castle. What a glorious day...  The morning was spent fashioning truly delightful shoes - as only Nancy can style.  Like fairy cobblers, each student ruffled glorious creations that speak of 18th century rose gardens bursting at the seams!  Nancy truly excelled in her premier teaching experience!  After lunch, we changed centuries when I taught everyone how to make regency inspired round toed slippers and medieval pointed slippers.  The day was filled with laughter, sharing and sweet sweet inspirations!  I'll let the photos speak for themselves...

Fairy Tale Couture From Russia...

85689691_10

From Russia with love...  Slava Zaitsev creates exquisite Haute Couture straight out of a Russian Fairy Tale!  In his 70's, Slava is known as the 'Red Dior'.  In honor of the 100 year anniversary of Sergey Dyagilev's Seasons in Pairs, Slava's designs this year hark back to the world famous Ballets Russes, that kept Paris on its toes in the beginning of the 20th century.  His extravagant use of braids and ribbons, and rich jewel toned colors make me think of Russian Princesses eagerly waiting to dance in the cold chilly moonlight!  DREAMY!!!

Dance Out Loud!

3377991762_3e420400b3_o

“Live life fully while you're here. Experience everything. Take care of yourself and your friends. Have fun, be crazy, be weird. Go out and screw up! You're going to anyway, so you might as well enjoy the process. Take the opportunity to learn from your mistakes: find the cause of your problem and eliminate it. Don't try to be perfect; just be an excellent example of being human.”

—Anthony Robbins (b. 1960); self-help writer, speaker
