Reliquaries At Chateau Sonoma!

IMG_3771

Chateau Sonoma  is my absolute favorite shop North of the Bay Area!  So I am thrilled to be offering it as a new teaching venue.  This past Sunday 8 wonderful women joined me in a 'Reliquary Class' held at the home of Sarah Anderson, owner of Chateau Sonoma.  We felt as if we had been transported to Provence, nestled in the dining room of her truly stunning home!  Surrounded by French antiques, beautiful views and good company, amazing art was created by all!

Sarah is in the process of creating a 'classroom' at her shop, where I hope to offer many more classes in the near future.  Stay tuned for more wonderful classes to take place at Chateau Sonoma HERE! as well as on the sidebar of my blog.

7 Rabbits And 7 Witches In Hayward!

Yesterday I taught my Paperclay Figural Theatre Class to 14 wonderful women from the Flying Phoebes Cloth Doll Club in Hayward! We had Seven Rabbits and Seven Witches sharing space, laughs and stories... Spring time bunnies played with zombie witches... a Kwanzaa rabbit sat next to a circus bunny... and a day of the dead madame found company with a purple skinned witch! The last three photos are 'inside the skirt theatre' details inspiring unimagined stories. What an amazing day!!!

Valentine Angel Box Class in Menlo Park!

Today I had a lovely pre-Valentine class making 'Valentine Angel Boxes' in Menlo Park! As you can see from the photos it was a creative group of ladies! The base is a German paper mache ball (it opens in the center) on top of a 'wood candlestick' from Michaels. I had them make cotton-batting bodies for the angels and then I had pre-cast fimo heads (from an Italian hand-carved angel I own) which we colored with chalks. They were dressed in appropriate red and white papers, trim, glitter and floral lovelies... Each angel has wings, of course... and a few added accessories like umbrellas and heart wands. It was a truly heart-filled wonderful day!!!

STUDIO UPDATE!

Things have been a whirlwind around here, with my kits selling almost as fast as I can make them (THANK YOU EVERYONE, AND I JUST ADDED MORE KITS TODAY!) The ultra talented Pam Garrison was sweet enough to mention my kits on her blog yesterday, THANKS PAM!, so the fire is under my pants again!!! I also scheduled my first official 'IN STUDIO' CLASS for this Sunday, so I have been working like crazy to get my space to look more like a 'teaching studo' and less like a 'disaster zone'!
I thought I'd give you a sneak peak of my studio. We purchased our house mainly because it has a double garage - (the old-fashioned kind, where the garage is back to back towards the end of the lot). First month we moved in, my husband closed off the back half of the space for me, and put in new walls and floor. A few years ago, he put in french doors out to the garden, and little windows framing the doors, plus my own private deck that sits under the apple tree! I love my studio, but more often than not it looks like a disaster zone inside!!! I am usually working on at least 5 projects at a time, and move around from project to project... So you are getting the official "Photographers Special" photos today, trust me, it won't stay this neat for long!!!

First, I really wanted some 'Beauty' in my room, and created special little spots where I can rest my eyes when my fingers need to stop... This photo shows the right hand wall as you come into the studio, with an old green couch, my doll-house (with storage underneath!), and a few other Ulla- pieces. The rose poster, was hand carried to me by Carol's sister from Germany, earlier this year! Isn't it fabulous?

Next is the area, by the window on the same wall, where I have all my jewelry equipement and space. I hung my favorite Tivoli poster, and put a sweet little vintage church below it with a few other favorite things... And here is how my view looks out into the garden. There are sweet little German flower children on the sill. Since I hate to weed and prune, my garden is pretty wild right now - just like a cottage garden... Thats the neighbors old Victorian you can see thru the bushes...

Dscn4596

Another big goal for this studio clean-up was to make a permanent space for my daughter! She often works with me, but I have to shift her around depending on what I am working on. So I designated a corner just for her! (check out the cool storage basket for pipecleaners!)
On my back wall I have long shelves, the top devoted to some of my bird cages (my daughters spot is under the swan!) and the second shelf for pretty storage. My sewing area (with my beloved Bernina) is on the opposite corner from my daughters space.

I have tons of ribbons that I store in two old doll-buggies that used to be my daughters (she got them the same year for christmas - one from me, one from grandmother - LOL) I also bought some 'Martha Stewert' Apothecary jars (at K-mart) to put favorite ribbons, leaves, and flower centers in. Thats an old gingerbread clock case behind them, that I hope to make into a 'doll case' someday! Enough for now, will post more later, including photos of where most of my 'stuff' is stored!!!

Soldered Jewelry in Mendocino

This was a small class with big ambitions... I even had one student who took the medium to a whole new level and made wonderful little 3/D boxes and shrines! Just look at all the work they did...

Figural Paper Theatre's in Petaluma

Today I had 12 lovely ladies from a Petaluma Cloth-Doll Club take my 'Figural Paper Theatre' class. A few students didn't quite finish in time, (thus the missing arms and/or skirts...) but they all did a marvelous job!!! This Theatre has a woman on top and her skirt opens up revealing a scene inside.Dscn3033_1

Easter Egg Theaters in Menlo Park

My 'Once a Month' group in Menlo Park made 'Easter Egg theaters' yesterday. We discovered that it's nice to have a larger hole in front so that you can really see everything inside. (in case you get tempted to try one yourself) They turned out wonderful don't you think?Dscn2833

My 'once a month group' in Menlo Park, decided to make a variety of Angel Theatre's in December. Elves, snowladies and even a tree became magical christmas treasures. I think they turned out wonderful!

Soldered Jewelry in Mendocino

I taught a two day Soldered Jewelry class at the Mendocino Arts Center, in November. It was a beautiful weekend, with plenty of sunshine and glorious sunsets. The air was crisp and chilly, with the ocean so near. The Jewelry classroom is cozy and warm, very conducive to creating wonderful art! My students were a very talented bunch, as you can see from their work here.

I had a very funky/retro, but comfy and large with kitchen, apartment for the weekend. A skyblue door greeted me each evening. It was less than 20 steps from the classroom! The whole campus is filled with wonderful art inside and out. Do check out their websight, for a variety of class offerings. I will be there again in the summer. It was a bit like taking a working vacation!

In case you were wondering if I was missed, this little one made it clear she wanted to come with If I was leaving anytime soon again. Yep, thats my suitcase, not quite unpacked...
