Fanny and Odette

Sometimes I discover an artist whose work takes my breath away... Fanny Crenn - muse, artist and creater of Les Bijoux D'Odette has me swooning in desire and admiration! Fanny lives in West Brittany, France, and Odette, the central character in her work, lives in her heart! In Fanny's dexterous hands, old photos and ephemera, antique clothing and textiles, leather gloves, and other small objects are transformed into beautiful 'reliquaries' filled with memories and romance. Her small wearable pieces are like tiny textural nostalgic scrap-books... Her sublime clothing reminds me a little of the princess in the fairytale Furball (a very refined version of couse!)- wearing bits of this and that and looking absolutely wonderful! We are Lucky indeed that Odette inspires so much!!!

I especially love that hugely buttoned, hooded jacket! Those sleeves! Those buttons! Mmmmmm.

I will respond from a religious point of view. The picture of the Virgin Mary is scandulous. I love it. It is so true, in that intuitive way. Lovely and thought-provoking. She was a woman just like the rest of us, and experienced her growing body just like the rest of us. And this picture portrays the woner and amazement of pregnancy. Thanks for posting these.

You are absolutely right - her work IS absolutely wonderful. I love it when artists create stories in the artwork. And you know, I've never seen a painting of the Virgin Mary like that before. It's surprising and very straightforward, don't you think? Her black and red bracelets look like they've been inspired by African art.

The creativity of this artist is unique. I adore the soft colors and the little girl at the bottom.
Your vase is intriguing, I am very interested in it's progress and can't wait to see.

These wonderful clothing designs (and the photography as well) seem mysterious, slyly witty, and evocative of another place and time!

OMG! Are these ever inspirational! I SO need a new printer for fabric transfers! The necklaces are just lovely. Thanks for the comments on my blog, Ulla - I am not worried about Ms. Crow's creation just yet. The whole creative community seems to be in a bit of an apres holiday slump - your offerings here are just the thing to kick us in the butt to get going! As for ST - I found myself covering my eyes when the blood spurted(!) - but you will love the look of the movie and HBC's costumes are great!
