Todays Inspiration!
Lea and I are off to another Blogland Fete hosted by none other than 'Queen of France' Corey and her Godmother Mary! I won't spoil the secret, but I will share my Inspiration for todays 'party favors'!
These dyed, stitched and embellished 'gloves' by Kate Fletcher pay tribute to her mother who in the 1950’s, brought up children, cooked, cleaned, sewed, darned, blued and wrung the washing, ochred the fireplace, chopped the firewood and fixed the electrics, always looking her best on any outing like so many women in her time. And from The Worshipful Company of Glovers of London come these wonderful photos of leather Gauntlet gloves and leather gloves trimmed with ribbons, from the 1600's. Last is a 'sneak peek' at what I created... More photos soon!!!

Kate's mother sounds amazing, thank you for sharing such beautiful pieces of art.

I kept a pair of my Mother's cream colored gloves after she died. Wrapped in fine tissue, tucked in my top dressing table drawer, I often open them, touch them to my face and memories coming flooding back so easily. She always dressed "to the nines" being a proper English lady and a dressmaker to the Royal Family in her younger days. Her interpretations of basic Vogue sewing patterns, and her "eye" for fabulous fabrics, meant I too was dressed divinely as a little girl. Until just before her death at 91, she still sewed for me. The gloves and her silver thimble are my most treasured possessions.
