Wooden Marionette Aug 11 & 12

This class will be held at Castle In the Air, Berkeley, CA.

Ulla has long wanted to build a working marionette, and Castle in the Air's extensive collection of vintage and modern ones inspired her to create this two-day class. The basic form is a 12-inch artist's mannequin. Ulla will show you how to take it apart and reassemble it with jointed limbs activated by strings suspended from wooden crossbars. Though Ulla will be happy to make suggestions, you might want to come to class with a character already in mind for your animated thespian. (A jolly tree frog, a long-nosed elf, and a humble Chinese peasant were some of the creations from an earlier class.) To make your figure, you'll sculpt the head from paper clay and paint it. The next step is creating your character's costume with fabrics and luscious trims from Ulla's collection. Then it's time to have fun with your merry marionette!
Fee: $145; includes materials, but feel free to bring favorite fabrics, trims, and other objects you'd like to use for the costume.
Instructor: Ulla Milbrath. Limit: 8 students.
Two Days: August 11, Saturday, 10am–4pm, and August 12, Sunday, 11am–5pm

CALL: 510-204-9801 to reserve your spot.

Cancellations made at least 14 days before the first class meeting are eligible for refund or credit. Castle in the Air may cancel a class if fewer than three students enroll. If a class is canceled, students will be contacted and refunded the full class fee
