Mermaids Love Token June 13

This class will be held at Castle In The Air, Berkeley, CA.
This small stuffed whimsy is a nostalgic piece indeed, with designs formed from decorative pins, beads, and sequins. It's modeled on heart-shaped pincushions that were crafted for sweethearts back home by British soldiers who were convalescing or at rest behind the front lines during World War I. These small love tokens are now highly collectible and displayed in museums. Ulla has reinterpreted them as fabric clamshells decorated by a mermaid for her sweetheart (a merman, or perhaps a human?). She'll bring in pre-cut and sewn shapes for you to stuff and decorate. The pins and the beads they secure can be used for purely decorative purposes, or to spell out a name or words. You can even add photos and poems. Ulla has collected special materials and embellishments for you to use in your design.
Fee: $95; includes materials and a pattern to take home. Bring fabric scissors, and feel free to bring favorite scraps of fabric, ribbon, lace, trim, sequins, and other ephemera to use.
